Director of Research (CNRS)
Nicolas Blanchard received his Ph.D. from the Université Paris VI in 2000. After postdoctoral studies at Michigan University, he joined the CNRS as Chargé de Recherche in 2002 and became Directeur de Recherche at the University of Strasbourg in 2013. His research program currently focuses on total synthesis of polyketides (especially mycolactones), copper catalysis, nitrogen-substituted alkynes, and cycloaddition reactions.

Vincent Bizet received his PhD from the INSA of Rouen (France) in 2012. After postdoctoral studies at RWTH Aachen University and then at Geneva University, he joined the CNRS as « Chargé de recherche » at University of Strasbourg in 2016. His research interest currently focus on the development of transition-metal-catalyzed synthetic methodologies. In 2022, Vincent obtained his habilitation (HDR) from the University of Strasbourg.

Dr Mariam Abd El Sater
CNRS Postdoctoral researcher
Mariam Abd El Sater was born in 1996 in Lebanon. She obtained her M. S. degree in Organic Chemistry at Lebanese University. After doing her master internship in the team Molecular Catalysis at ICMMO (Université Paris Saclay), she pursued her PhD studies (defended in 2021) under the supervision of Dr. Emmanuelle Schulz and Dr. Nada Jaber. Her work focused on the non-covalent immobilization of salen complexes on reduced graphene oxide and the use of the supported catalysts in enantioselective transformations. In 2022, she joined the group of bioorganic and bioinorganic chemistry at ICMMO for a one-year postdoc under the supervision of Dr. Wadih Ghattas, working on the preparation of artificial metalloenzymes as hybrid catalysts for the CO2 activation. In 2023, she joined the LIMA to work on the functionalization of the SF5-alkynes under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Bizet.

Dr Pietro Capurro
CNRS Postdoctoral researcher
Pietro Capurro was born in Genova, Italy in 1993. He studied chemistry at the University of Genova where he was awarded his M.Sc. and his Ph.D. with honours in 2017 and 2022, respectively. His research topics focused on photoinduced multicomponent reactions from a methodological point of view and their practical applications towards the synthesis of natural compounds and their analogues, and radical photochemistry for olefin functionalization. During his studies he also worked twice with AnalytiCon Discovery GmbH for the large scale synthesis of chiral building blocks, and during his Ph.D. he spent 6 months in the laboratories of Prof. Paolo Melchiorre (ICIQ, Tarragona, Spain) working on the enantioselective photo-organocatalytic radical functionalization of enals. He now moved to the CNRS in Mulhouse under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Blanchard to work on the total synthesis on Myconolactones and its analogues.

Lucas Popek

Lucas Popek obtained a master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Upper-Alsace of Mulhouse in 2021 and he did his Master internship in the team “Biomolecules, Synthesis and Methodologies” under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Blanchard and Dr. Vincent Bizet. In 2021, he started a PhD position in the same group and supervision, where he develops his research about emerging fluorine motifs.

David Matchavariani obtained a master’s degree in molecular and supramolecular chemistry at the University of Strasbourg in 2022. He did his master’s internship in 2022 in the team “Chimie Organique et Hétérochimie Appliquées” (COHA, LIMA, UMR 7042) under the supervision of Dr. Armen Panossian and Dr. Gilles Hanquet. In 2022, he started a PhD position in the team “Biomolecules, Synthesis & Methods” under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Bizet.

Yuri Zubchuk
PhD Student
Yurii Zubchuk obtained a master’s degree in physical chemistry at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2012. He did his master’s internship in 2012 under the supervision of Dr. Olexenko Liudmyla P. (professor of Chemistry at the Department of Physical Chemistry of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) and Dr. Gorbyk Petro P. (head of Department of Nanomaterials of Chuiko Institute of Surface Chemistry National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). Since 2010 till 2022 he had been working in a big worldwide chemical industrial company Enamine Ltd as a chemist. The main interest during his work was development a new synthetic methods for preparation organic compounds, mainly 5-membered azaheterocycles: pyrazoles, oxazoles, isoxasoles, imidazoles, triazoles, etc. Since 2020 till 2022 he had been working in collaborations with Tango Therapeutics as a FTE project team member. In 2022, he started a PhD position in the team “Biomolecules, Synthesis & Methods” under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Blanchard.

Vince’s main interests are sleeping while curled into a ball (up to 15 hours a day), eating leaves, slowly visiting his new Lab and catalytic asymmetric synthesis.
