The BSM group is composed of 2 lecturers (Dr. Anna BOULANGER and Dr. Samuel FOUCHARD) and 2 CNRS researchers (Dr. Vincent BIZET, BSM group director, and Dr. Nicolas BLANCHARD, LIMA Director).

Vincent BIZET

Vincent Bizet is a CNRS researcher (PI) at the LIMA laboratory (UMR 7042 CNRS) in Mulhouse and since 2025 group leader of the « Biomolecules, Synthesis and Methods » Research group (bsm.unistra.fr). He obtained his B. S. in chemistry in 2007 and completed graduated studies in 2009 at the University of Caen Normandie. He then pursued a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (2009-2012) at INSA Rouen under the supervision of Dr. Dominique Cahard and Jean-Luc Renaud focusing on organofluorine chemistry and ruthenium catalysis. In 2012, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship and joined Prof. Carsten Bolm’s group at the RWTH Aachen University to work on sulfoximine chemistry. In 2014, he undertook a second postdoctoral position with Prof. Clément Mazet at the University of Geneva, where he developed palladium-catalyzed asymmetric transformations. Dr. Bizet was appointed at the CNRS in 2016 and joined the LIMA laboratory (UMR 7042 CNRS) located in Mulhouse, where he completed his habilitation in 2022. The same year, he became a member of the Early Career Advisory Board of the journals Tetrahedron and Tetrahedron Letters.

His research interests encompass SF5 chemistry, homogeneous catalysis, heterocyclic chemistry, asymmetric synthesis, as well as organofluorine and sulfur chemistry. His commitment to research was recognized by the 2022 Guy Ourisson Prize from the Gutenberg Circle of the University of Strasbourg, the 2023 Thieme Chemistry Journal Award and he was selected among the ACS Organic & Inorganic Au’s 2025 Rising Stars.

Nicolas BLANCHARD

Nicolas Blanchard is the director of the LIMA laboratory (CNRS-Université de Haute-Alsace, Université de Strasbourg) and former head of the « Biomolecules, Synthesis and Methods » Research group (2012-2025). He received his Ph.D. in 2000 (Paris 6 University (now Sorbonne University), Janine Cossy). After a year of military duties in the Forensic Department of the Military Police, he joined the Laboratory of Jean-François Normant (Paris 6 University) for a first post-doctoral position. Late 2001, Nicolas joined the group of William Roush (Michigan University, USA) for a second post-doctoral position, before his recruitment as a junior CNRS researcher at the University Paris 11 (now Paris Saclay) late 2002. Nicolas was promoted to Research Director in 2013 and is currently President of the Section 12 (Molecular Chemistry) of the National Committee for Scientific Research (CoNRS) for the 2021-2025 mandate.

Current research interests of Nicolas' group encompass the development of synthetic processes including heterocyclic chemistry, metal-mediated transformations, pericyclic reactions, and the synthesis of bioactive natural products.
Nicolas received the "Advanced researcher award" of the French Chemical Society (2016), the "Distinguished Junior Membership" of the French Chemical Society (2015-2018), the "Syngenta Chemistry Lectureship" (2015), the "Guy Ourisson Award" (2014) and the "Bronze medal of the CNRS" (2012).
